Sporting Events for the week of 12/5

The University of Michigan football program, making its NCAA-leading 31st consecutive bowl appearance and 37th overall bowl trip, has accepted an invitation to play in the 2005 MasterCard Alamo Bowl. The Wolverines (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) will play the University of Nebraska from the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from the Alamodome in San Antonio. This will be the fifth meeting between the Wolverines and Cornhuskers, with U-M holding a 3-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. Michigan defeated Nebraska 27-23 in 1986 Fiesta Bowl, the last meeting between the two schools and the only previous match-up during the bowl season.

Michigan Sporting Events for the week of 11/28

The University of Michigan volleyball team ended its regular season on its home floor with a 3-0 (21-30, 13-30, 27-30) loss to No. 2 Penn State on Senior Night (Saturday, Nov. 26) at Cliff Keen Arena.

The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 contest to No. 2 Wisconsin Saturday (Nov. 26) on the second night of the College Hockey Hockey Showcase. U-M battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game early in the third period, but the Badgers tallied the game-winning goal with 1:58 left in the game. The Wolverines were swept in the College Hockey Showcase for the third straight season.

The University of Michigan Men's basketball team improved its record to a perfect 4-0 with a 74-53 victory over the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Tuesday night (Nov. 29) at Crisler Arena. With the excitement in the air from the atmosphere, the Wolverines got off to a bumpy first half start but found their rhythm in the second half and gradually pulled away. The Maize and Blue used a 23-for-29 night from the foul line, and a 42-to-27 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive rebounds to close out the Hurricanes

Michigan Sporting events for the week of 11/21

Last Week in Michigan Sports:

The 17th-ranked University of Michigan football team fell short in the final minutes Saturday (Nov. 19) against the No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes, falling 25-21 in front of 111,591 fans at Michigan Stadium. On its final possession, Ohio State drove 88 yards on 12 plays for the game-winning score, a three-yard touchdown run by Antonio Pittman with 24 seconds remaining. The Wolverines could not come back in the waning seconds of the game as time ran out with Michigan at its own 42-yard line.

The fifth-seeded University of Michigan men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to fourth seed Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship first round on Thursday (Nov. 10) at Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex. The Wolverines conclude the season with an 8-10-1 overall record.

Athletic Events for the week of 11/14

Last week in Michigan Sports:

The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan field hockey team could not overcome a pair of early second-half tallies by No. 3 Old Dominion as the Wolverines fell 3-2 in the NCAA quarterfinal round on Sunday (Nov. 13) at Ohio State's North Turf Field. The Wolverines finish the season with a 16-8 record, their seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and the Big Ten Conference Tournament title.

The 21st-ranked University of Michigan football team cruised past the Indiana Hoosiers, 41-14, in front of 110,580 fans on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Michigan Stadium. Following an early Indiana touchdown, the Wolverines scored on three of their first four possessions en route to 41 unanswered first-half points. Michigan coach Lloyd Carr used the final minutes of the game to test U-M's depth, rotating several players at multiple positions.

  • Sunday, November 20th Women's Basketball vs Miami of Ohio at 2:00pm - $1:00 from every ticket will be donated to Motts Childrens Hospital. Autographs will also be held after the game

The Wolverines conclude the regular football season with the 102nd playing of the "Big Game." Michigan and Ohio State will battle at Michigan Stadium next Saturday (Nov. 19) at 1 p.m. EST. The game will be televised by ABC Sports.

Michigan Fall Sports are gearing up for another spectacular year! The Wolverines are following an incredible Spring season in which Women's Rowing placed 8th at the NCAA tournament and the Softball team won their very first Women's College World Series National Championship. Michigan also finished 4th in the Directors Cup, which ranks each collegiate athletic program as a whole. The Wolverines finished behind UCLA, Texas, and Stanford. With resluts like these, we can truly say Michigan is one of the Leaders and Best!!!
